The Bundesliga and the entire footballing world is mourning the passing of Gerd Müller. As announced by former club Bayern München, Müller passed away on the morning of 15 August at the age of 75. Having joined the record champions in 1964, Müller shaped German football like few others. With the national team, 'Der Bomber' won the 1972 European Championship and also the 1974 World Cup on home soil. He also lifted several domestic and international titles with Bayern, as well as being Bundesliga top scorer in seven seasons. His record total of 40 from the 1971/72 campaign was only surpassed on the final day of last season by Robert Lewandowski, when he scored his 41st goal of 2020/21. Müller's total of 365 goals in 427 Bundesliga games remains the league's record.

His goals in Mexico in 1970 were also very important. Germany was building the team for 74 and Gerds Goals were the Difference. In 74 it was Gerd vCruyff and it was a great World Cup fur Deutschland. RIP to those great players who have gone.🇩🇪🇳🇱🇦🇷

My earliest memory of football was the 1974 world Cup final. Holland scoring before West Germany had even touched the ball!!! Then Gerd Muller. What a striker. RIP man.

@@PatrykCedro94 World Cup 94, Belgium-Holland, was mine. Four years later I was in high school with a little antenna tv in my room and I watched every single game during my exams. I have the most fond memories of the 98 World Cup, especially because it came with a FIFA game me and my brother would almost fight wars over. Good times. :)

He was unquestionably the greatest goalscorer of his generation, possibly of all time, due to his sustained period of excellence. The mind boggles to wonder when thinking about how prolific he would be in this era of good pitches and the advent of sports science. It is kind of poetic that Gerd was alive to see that Lewandowski equalled and broke his Bundesliga record of 40 goals in a season few months ago. Farewell peerless poacher,Herr Gerd.

@@stunnagirl8465 Yeah..... I felt that it was the Everest of European goal-scoring records but it was broken by a superhuman (or alien) like Messi. This feat (mentioned above) is incredible too and was eclipsed by one of the finest marksmen in the 21st century.

He is the best ever pure centre forward and finisher I've ever seen. He had an instinct for where he should position himself in the box, it was just uncanny. You can't learn or teach that, it's almost like a sixth sense.

Deutschlands Größter 🥂 As a Player & most importantly as a Person he was ahead of Many. It's not just about goals but how those Goals came. A Player can score 5 goals A Match but how those 5 goals came brings in the adaptability to conditions in different circumstances. Muller wasn't a Player like The Swan or Maradona but still different. A Player who was Like Johan but with Finishing second to None. Johan was a deeper second striker & Muller was an advanced striker. A Player & a Person we all will cherish for long. His face always brought positivity & I hope the upcoming Generation would seek to know the fruitful, Gerd Muller.

I am from Portugal and remember when i was a young boy and later on, the magnificent World Champeon German teams, and specialy the Bombardeer Gerd Müller! I miss those times.

This is a sad day for not only Bayern, not only the national team, not even the entire German league scene. It is a sad day for football. His legacy as one the greatest scorers in football history will live forever and drive many younger players to train hard to live up to the standards of such an excellent role model in the sport.

The PERFECT penalty box poacher. Amazing first touch and close control. Able to spin on a dime and shoot. Zero run up before shooting, even when the ball seem to get caught under his feet. Can score with both feet and head in every way from blasting it or just toe poking it. But the best of all, the brain with the amazing awareness to be at the right place and right time and speed of thought to react faster than anyone.

R.I.P to one of the greatest player to walk on earth. He was really the bomber. As a kid born in 2004 I never watched him play live on TV or mobile but I watched videos of him playing and he is surely one of the greatest.

The greatest ever goal scorer. 14 goals in 13 Fifa World Cup games hasn’t been matched. More than a goal per game for his World Cup Career alone, and 68 Goals in 62 games. Just AWESOME! What a joy it was to have watched him during my very young age. He was, is and will be my favorite player. Bayern and West German National Teams became world power winners because of him. I, just like Gerd himself loved his games more in 1970 FIFA World Cup than in 1974. JUST A FANTASTIC GOAL MACHINE. Farewell Der Bomber. We will never see the likes of him.

The first time I heard of him was the 74 world cup, we had no tv, heck there was no tv broadcast in the city we lived and dad drove us to another city to watch the final and that was the time I watched him🙂🇹🇷
